After Sales Services - Watches

WHY MAINTENANCE?

Your watch is a sophisticated precision instrument which is constantly subjected to a wide variety of stresses and strains. In a very tight volume, numerous components are operating together and contribute in their own way to ensure all the time and chronograph functions. Wear and tear is the unavoidable result of any mechanical movement. Maintenance serves to control this phenomenon by renewing lubrication as well as replacing worn parts. For example, your movement is protected by a case fitted with gaskets to ensure its water resistance. Under the influence of various external elements, these gaskets progressively deteriorate and must be periodically replaced.  Your watch must be regularly maintained in order to ensure it operates as efficiently as possible.

MAINTENANCE DESCRIPTION

In order to ensure perfect functioning of your watch, the After Sales Service  P O N C I N I  offers two major services:

1.    The Maintenance Service
The frequency of this operation mainly depends on how often you use your watch in water (see chapter Water-Resistance). It includes:

Mechanical or Quartz Watch: Balance wheel and escapement cleaning and lubrication on mechanical watches. Checking of the movement and the watch functions.  Exchange of battery on quartz watches. Cleaning of case and metal bracelet, replacement of all gaskets and control of water-resistance.

2.    The General Service
This operation is recommended every 4 years, but it can be influenced by the way the watch is used.

Mechanical or Quartz Watch:

Movement overhaul.  Complete dismantling of the mechanism, cleaning, replacement of worn-out components, assembling, lubrication and adjustment of functions and daily rate. Exchange of battery on quartz watches. Refurbishing of case and metal bracelet, replacement of all gaskets and water-resistance control.

In addition,  P O N C I N I  offers at any time various services as: replacement of strap, polishing, refurbishing, rapid diagnosis, adjustments and simple tests.

Any intervention must be performed by the official representative of your watch’s Brand. Otherwise, the warranty is void.

The maintenance of your watch is the best way to protect your investment.
Do not wait until it is stops to bring it for a Maintenance.

WATER-RESISTANCE

All watches are water-resistant at various levels, according to models.

However, exposure to commonplace elements of everyday life, such as perspiration, chlorinated or salty water, cosmetics and ultraviolet light, will progressively downgrade water-resistance.

When intensively using your watch in water, a Maintenance Service is recommended every year.  When occasionally using your watch in water, a Maintenance Service is recommended every 2 years.

The level of water-resistance is given in meters and is a technical norm.  It does not indicate an absolute depth of immersion. The crown and pushpieces (including chronometer ones) must not under any circumstances be operated under water or when the watch is wet (except for models with magnetic pushpieces), because water could seep through the pushpieces and damage the movement.

For models equipped with a screw-locked crown and pushpieces, make sure they are locked before using them in the water.

The table below indicates the conditions in which your watch may reasonably be used, according to its degree of water-resistance:

USEFUL TIPS

Leather Straps:

As any leather made apparels (shoes, gloves, etc…), the life span of leather straps varies according to wearing conditions.  Water, cosmetics and perspiration will certainly hasten the aging process.
A rubber strap or metal bracelet is better suited to activities involving frequent contact with water or humidity.

Cases and Metals Bracelets:

When the case and bracelet get clogged up by dust and perspiration, this may irritate the skin and in turn tarnish the case.  To avoid such deposits, it is important to periodically clean the case and metal bracelet, for example with a toothbrush and liquid soap, and then rinse them in fresh and warm water and dry them with a soft absorbent cloth. In any case, rinsing in fresh and warm water is strongly recommended after any immersion in salty or chlorinated water.

Automatic watches:

Automatic watches are self-winding when worn regularly.
It is advisable to wear the bracelet adjusted to your wrist, a loose wearing can cause a loss of autonomy.
Automatic watches stop after about 40 hours of immobility. After such a case, it is advisable to wind 10 to 20 rounds by hand.

Manuel watches:

Manual watches must be winded every day.

Change of the date:

It is advisable to avoid changing the date between 21 h and 24 h: this is the period when the gears are being repositioned for the automatic change of date. Such an operation could damage the gears.
